Volunteer & Intern

ECHO offers a variety of opportunities for individuals interested in volunteering. Placement is made based on an individual’s interests, experience, abilities, availability, and on current volunteer openings.

To volunteer,  download and complete a copy of our volunteer application and waiver, then contact us.

ECHO’s Internship Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to immerse themselves in museum operations and strengthen their professional skills. Internship opportunities are available year-round. For more information and to apply contact our Executive Director, Danielle Utter.

Examples of how volunteers assist us:

House Host – Located throughout the house, these stationary or floating guides answer guest questions about the home, our collection, and/or the family, as needed. This post is a great introduction to guiding tours with us, and can be the first step to becoming a full tour guide/docent. ECHO provides basic training and materials, plus offers opportunities to shadow tour guides.

Docent (Tour Guide) – Located at the entrance of the home, these docents open/close the museum, house host, and are specially trained to give the orientation portion of our tour. They also provided private tours for groups, as needed.

Ticket Booth – Greet visitors and process their ticket payments, orient guests to the museum, answer questions, and provide information on ECHO programs, events, and activities. Depending on the weather, this post will be either inside or outside. This is a great position for those looking to stay stationary/sitting.

Garden Clubs – Garden volunteers help with the maintenance and care of our grounds at both houses. Green thumbs are welcome to adopt a bed and make it their own. For those without green thumbs, we are always looking for people to help water and weed. Our garden volunteers are welcome to come and go at their convenience and/or participate in scheduled garden days. ECHO has tools available for use during club gatherings, but we recommend bringing your own gloves.  This is a wonderful volunteer activity for the whole family.
